How to Become the Dream Version of Yourself
1. Define Your Dream Self
First things first: Who do you want to be? This is the first and most important step in know how to become the dream version of yourself. You can’t become her if you don’t even know who she is. You need to have a very clear and detailed idea of who your dream self is from head to toe and what she does.
- Visualize: Picture your ideal life in detail.
- How does she spend her mornings, her days, her evenings?
- What are her hobbies? What skills does she have?
- What kind of energy does she bring into a room?
- Write It Down: Write down, in first-person present tense, every little detail about your day. From the time you wake up to your morning routine to your ideal career and the foods your nourish yourself with. Get clear on who your dream self is and what kind of life she is living.
2. Set Clear Goals
Now that you know very clearly who your dream self is, it is time to turn your vision into actionable steps.
- Break It Down: Divide long-term goals into smaller, achievable milestones. What I personally like to do is I always have a three year long-term goal (some people like to do 10 years, but I find that to be a bit too far into the future), and then I break them down into yearly goals and then seasonal or quarterly goals. I love the seasonal goals because it’s really easy to check in with yourself on how you’re doing and if you’ve achieved anything so far.
- Focus on Key Areas:
- Personal Growth: What skills and hobbies do you want to have? What mindset does your dream self have?
- Health: What does your fitness routine look like? How are you nourishing yourself? What is your self care routine?
- Career/Finances: What are your ambitions career-wise?
- Relationships: From family to friends to partners- what do you do to maintain meaningful and fulfilling relationships with them?
3. Cultivate Self-Discipline
You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to be 1% better than you were yesterday to achieve your goals. Consistency is the secret to how to become the dream version of yourself. Small daily efforts is what leads to big transformations over time.
- Daily Habits: Build routines that align with your goals. You can’t be sleeping until 10 everyday when your dream self is someone who wakes up early to do pilates and takes the time to make a beautiful aesthetic breakfast. Stick with one habit first and start small, eventually it will become a part of who you are. Read: Practical Ways to Have a High Energy Morning
- Time Management: Prioritize tasks and avoid distractions. Identify distractions or temptations that lead to procrastination (e.g., social media, TV) and minimize their presence during work time.
- Celebrate Progress: Every step towards achieving your goal counts. Reward yourself for milestones to stay sane; take a bath after a long day, treat yourself to a carby meal after a week of consistent exercise and healthy eating. Taking care of the mind is just as important as the rest!
4. Develop a Growth Mindset
Your dream self knows that to always be the best version of herself, you have to constantly grow and evolve. Having a growth mindset is extremely important for you to evolve into the highest version of yourself.
- Embrace Challenges: Don’t be afraid of trying new things, they might turn out to be the best experiences of your life. Even if not, it’s important to see setbacks as learning opportunities. Only when you’re out of your comfort zone will you start to grow.
- Stay Curious: Knowledge is power – read books, listen to podcasts, seek new experiences, talk to new people. Learn something everyday and always be open to new experiences. The best things in life happen to those who open their minds and remain curious.
- Affirmations: Constantly reassure yourself with empowering statements. Not only will they make you feel a lot better and a lot happier, you’ll also start to believe it over time.
5. Surround Yourself with Positivity
It’s true what they say – your environment influences your growth and you are literally a blend of the five people you spend the most time with. This is why it’s so so important to choose the right environment for your growth. You put a flower in the wrong soil and it still won’t grow no matter how much you water it.
- Supportive Relationships: Carefully select the people you spend time with, you don’t want to be giving all your energy away to people who are just going to drain you. Spend time with those who inspire and uplift you. You should feel lighter and happier after spending time with these people, not depleted.
- Declutter: I don’t know about you, but being in a messy room for me is the number one disruption for my productivity. A cluttered room will make my head and thinking feel cluttered as well. Create a clean, organized space that energizes you and makes you excited to work.
- Limit Negativity: No matter if it’s the news, certain media, social circles, or even certain people. If they’re not there to uplift you, then they should not be near you. Limit the negativity and cut people off when you have to.
6. Reflect and Adjust
Regular check-ins with yourself and reflections on how your life is going is one of the most important things to staying on track. When you feel like you’ve been a little off track or just a little lost as to where you’re heading, you should take some time to assess your progress and recalibrate as needed.
- Journaling: Having a place to write and reflect about your life, your feelings and emotions, your growth and achievements, is so important. How will you know how far you’ve come when you can’t even remember where and who you were just a few months ago? A journal will keep track of all of that for you.
- Self-Check-Ins: Are you aligned with your visions? Do you feel 100% content with the direction you’re headed in? Does what you do align with your core values? These are the questions you should be asking yourself every once in a while.
- Acknowledge Your Efforts: You might not be where you want to be yet, but you are so much further than where you started, so it’s important to slow down every once in a while and just give yourself a pat on the shoulder and acknowledge all the efforts you’ve put into creating your dream self and dream life so far.
6. Stay True to Yourself
At the end of the day, your dream self and dream life isn’t about living for others’ expectations. You’ll only ever be content if you are living to what’s true to yourself and your values.
- Authenticity: Make decisions based on your values, not societal pressures. Don’t do things because that’s what everyone else is doing or because it’s what’s expected of you. Only do things when they feel authentic and make you happy.
- Gratitude: Always appreciate the little things in life, be grateful for everything that you have. Remind yourself where you started while always striving for more.
- Flexibility: This is something I personally had to learn on my blogging journey (and I guess just from living life in general), and it’s to accept the fact that you’re always growing and changing and ALLOW your goals to evolve and grow with you. Sometimes we’re so fixated on a certain goal that we don’t the goal to grow as we grow.
Becoming the dream version of yourself is a journey, not a destination. It’s about embracing the process and committing to your growth every day. You already have everything within you to create the life you want—start today.
Until Next Time,
Emi
