I think I’ve just found the best night market in Taipei.
Whether you’re a tourist or a local, going to different night markets is a shared interest amongst everyone in Taiwan. And obviously, I’m no different.
Over the past year, I’ve been going left and right to popular night markets around Taipei, but none of them had been mind-blowing enough for me to want to make a second visit.
That changed today.
We were on a late night biking adventure to CKS memorial hall when we decided that we’d go for our Nth meal of the day. We looked at nearby night markets and stumbled across one we’ve never heard of before- Lehua night market (樂華夜市)in Yonghe district, New Taipei city.
We brushed it off at first since we hadn’t heard of it before. But seeing that it had a whooping 37k reviews with a 4.3 star rating, we decided that this mysterious, lesser-known night market would be our next destination for the night.
And I’m so glad we went.

Best Street Snacks in Lehua Night Market
In the many other night markets that I have visited, it can often feel like you’re at the same night market just in a different location because it’s always the same stalls over and over again. And I’m not talking about the same kinds of food, but literally the same stalls.
What makes Lehua night market so special is that there are so many unique food stalls here that you can’t really find in other night markets in Taipei, and that makes it much more exciting!
Guo Ji Stinky Tofu
This stand at the end of Lehua night market smelled so good we literally couldn’t resist ourselves from getting some. We got a bowl of stinky tofu soup and a small portion of Taiwanese sticky rice (油飯). The stinky tofu smells super good but if you’re an advanced stinky tofu eater, then it might be a bit too mild for you. If you’re new to stinky tofu, then this is the perfect place for you to start.

Lehua Seafood Thick Soup
I LOVE a good thick soup (羹湯). Many people leave this out, but for me it’s something I think everyone has to try when coming to Taiwan. It reminds me of my childhood. This stand is quite a popular one in Lehua night market, and I think they sell pretty decent thick soup. It’s pretty sweet and not too thick, and always remember to add a splash of black vinegar to give it more flavor! There are also many other thick soup restaurants around here for you to look around and try.

Grandma’s Takoyaki
There’s a stand called Grandma’s Takoyaki in the middle of Lehua night market run by a young grandpa. We actually asked where the grandma went and he told us he was her son and that she’s too old to run the stand. Short story aside, they have really good takoyakis and they give their toppings super generously (Added a ton of seaweed and mayonnaise for us). I definitely recommend eating the takoyakis hot, it gets a hard after it cools down!

Hometown Barbecue Chicken
We all loved this stand at Lehua night market. Hometown barbecue chicken is different from most of the fried chicken you usually get in Taiwan. As the name suggests, it is barbecued and very flavorful, and I definitely recommend adding some spice to kick it up a notch. A unique street snack you must try!

Yen Ji Deep Fried Fish Stick
Last but not least, this fried fish stick was unanimously voted as the best food we had today. This is a simple deep fried stick of fish paste with a slice of hard boiled egg wrapped inside. The fish stick was THICK, and it goes great with the pack of wasabi they give you. There was a huge line and people were buying bags of this to take home.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 (4.5/5)
There are so many foods to try at Lehua night market, we didn’t even get around to trying half of what we wanted to (we were too full). But Lehua night market is definitely one that we’d want to come back again (and again!).
Tell me: What is the best night market (in your opinion) that you have been to?
Until next time,
Emi
