I’ve been on the go since the tender age of two- moving from one place to another every year or two. By the age of ten, I had already lived in 5 beautiful cities and 2 countries. The longest I have ever stayed in one place was roughly 6 years. I was so used to moving that every time I stayed in the same city for any longer than 2 years, I would become extremely lethargic and dread my everyday routines.
Which is why, when I moved to Belgium with my family at the age of sixteen, I thought Europe was the perfect place for me to live. Being on a continent where all the countries were interconnected was absolutely splendid for someone who enjoyed to travel so much.
On top of the convenience of travel, the high school that I went to operated in trimesters. This meant that we would be getting short two week breaks every two or three months, which meant very very frequent traveling- what a dream come true!
After having lived in Europe for three years, some of the most common questions I get from people are:
“what’s your favorite city in Europe? “
“Where would you recommend I go on my next European trip?”
“What are some fun things I can do in….[insert name of country]”
Well, look no further! Today I’ll be sharing with you some of the best European cities that have absolutely captured my heart.
Prague
“You want to head West or East?” My mom asked me just before our first spring break in Belgium, with West being Spain and East being the Czech Republic.
If you had asked me a year prior, I probably would have answered Spain in a second. Having grown up in Taiwanese culture, all you ever hear about is Western European countries (ie, the Netherlands, Germany, France, etc..) when it comes to travel. People rarely ever talk about going Eastern Europe. Perhaps it is because Eastern Europe doesn’t get anywhere near as much coverage as its Western counterparts in Taiwan. However, traveling to somewhere so foreign was what intrigued me even more, it was as if the unknown was calling my name.
Not only did Prague not disappoint, it quickly became my favorite city in Europe. Even now, five years later, anytime someone asks me what my favorite city is, I always tell them without hesitation: Prague.
Lisbon
Lisbon has a very special place in my heart- it was the first trip ever that I took without my family. It was like a coming of age trip, the one where I finally got a taste of how it felt to be on your own in the great ol’ world.
Traveling without adults feels so different. It makes you more present, and you absorb your surroundings in much more because you have to stay aware at all times and guide yourself. You’re not dependent on your guardians to plan and lead the way anymore. That’s one of the main things I love about solo traveling, and Lisbon is definitely an amazing place to go solo.
And not to mention, Lisbon also has the most delicious delicacies!
Bratislava
I don’t have many photos from Bratislava because I was only there for around three hours, as a stop-by. However, three hours was enough to notice all the eccentric architecture and eye-catching restaurants. Although I wasn’t there for long, Bratislava definitely left a deep impression on me. I’ll definitely plan a trip just for Bratislava someday!
Orvieto
Orvieto is one of those unimaginably beautiful Italian cities that don’t get anywhere near enough love! I wonder why because it’s honestly one of the most marvelous places I’ve been to. Every little corner feels so authentic and untouched by masses of tourists. The cats here are worth another post their own- frickin’ adorable! (grabs heart)
Orvieto is great for people who want to experience Italy without being a part of the crowd. Time seems to go by slower in Orvieto. A definite must-go on your trip to Italy.
Rome
Rome, oh Rome. I couldn’t possibly leave you out of the list! Actually, cross that. Every Italian city I have ever been to has far exceeded my expectations. Naples, Rome, Verona…
But I decided to put Rome on here because there is just a never ending list of things to do in Rome. I was in Rome for three days and it was not! enough! Honestly I would even go as far as saying probably even a month in Rome isn’t enough for one to uncover all of its magnificent beauty.
Obviously there are many more lovely cities that I adore in Europe. The list is infinite, if I wrote about all of them this blog would be thick as a textbook. These are just a few of my favorites that you truly will not regret traveling to!
Have you been to any of these cities? What are some of your favorite cities in Europe?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Until next time,

While I haven’t been to these cities, I lived in Belgium, Germany (twice), and Cyprus. I love the history that Europe provides and the lovely old buildings. I see I have many more places to discover.

I have to agree that Europe has some beautiful cities. And I love your choices. These are some of my favourites. But I can’t believe we have missed Orvieto. Definitely one for a return visit to Italy!

Always tough to rank cities in Europe! The only city I’ve been to on your list in Rome and I also loved it, so there’s a good chance I’ll agree with you for the others 🙂
